June 25th

Papa Joe fished with Chris and Nick today. The reds were unbelievable and hungry too. They had their limits before 9 AM again today and the wind was better than yesterday. In fact, it was just plain still. No problem seeing the fish today. Here is a photo of Chris showing off his big red of the day. At 10 Am the heat was so bad they elected to return to the dock, get those fish cleaned, and have some lunch.

June 24th

Today I fished with Chris Ginn, a writer, photographer, and a real good fisherman. We had our limit of redfish before 9 AM . Those reds were tailing, and pushing water for miles around. The limits could have come earlier but we visited several places trying to get photos of tailing reds without the slight chop on the water. All and all it was a great time for the both of us. Here is a photo of Chris showing off the two biggest fish of the day.

June 17th & 18th

The Gobert part of 6 returned from Shreveport LA. to fish with Papa Joe. The second boat was Capt. E.J. These guys tore the reds up for two days in a row on spinner baits. They will be grilling reds for a long time. It's enough to make a bass fisherman convert to reds. These were all beautiful fish, and they limited out both days. This photo says it all. June 14th

Nathan, his father Rene, and Dane joined Papa Joe today to find these reds and more. Since the bite was early yesterday, we got a very early start only to find the wind up and the bite happened later. They had some huge reds along with some good eaters. Thanks guys, we hope to see you again.

June 13th

As you can see from these pictures, Papa Joe fished with Steve Oppenheimer and his son today. Even with the seabreeze from the southwest, the weather was great and they managed to fish reds on the lea shore. Kept only enough fish to eat at Jan's Cajun Restaurant and turned the rest loose to fight another day. Thanks guys, I hope you enjoyed the trip and we will see you again when you get back to New Orleans.

June 4th & 5th

My good friend Brock, his wife, and daughters fished for Redfish the past 2 days. Here they arre showing off some of their catch. The weather wasn't the best either day; with strong winds and heavy clouds, it looked like winter. This will probably be the last nasty front of the summer and we can get back on the big schools of Speckled Trout in the Bay. Gang, I hope you enjoyed the trip as much as I did. Let's do it again and bring Justin next time. 

May 28th

Matt from Baton Rouge is pictured here with his mother, grandmother, and some of the reds they caught today with Papa Joe. This was matt's graduation present and boy did he enjoy the trip. (30 trout and 6 reds) He caught the biggest, and the most fish as he put on a clinic for all of us. Matt wants to be a fishing and hunting guide when he is old enough. He has the talent, but I told him while the best guides have a natural talent, a degree in accounting and biology helps a lot. Thanks folks, we hope to fish with you again.

May 15th

Dean, Dane, and Harvey are pictured here showing off some of the fish they caught while fishing with Papa Joe on a great two-day package. They fished Redfish the first day and Trout/redfish the second day. The accommodations, food, weather, and fishing were all fantastic. Thanks guys, have a safe trip home and we hope to see you again next year.  

May 15th

Capt. Mike fished with the Berthelot gang today. As you can see from this photo, they had a very successful trip for the third year in a row. That's quite a record. Now is the time to get on the fish here in Lafitte. They are really turned on and the fisherman love it. Thanks folks, when is the fish fry? Hope to see you again next year.

May 8th thru 11th

That's right the Sidewinder party or the "Cali boys" as they are known in certain parts of Lafitte, just completed a 4 day five night package fishing with Papa Joe. These guys were really a kick. The fishing, food, and accommodations were great. And the weather--except for wind the 1st day--was absolutely beautiful. Here are a few photos that prove to the folks at home that they were here. That's the Sidewinder and Mike in the California Camo, Joe and Rich with the big smiles. Have a safe trip home and enjoy the fish.

May 9th

Other than the wind, the weather was absolutely beautiful when Capt. Mike took the Wolsey Party fishing today. Here is a photo with them showing off a few of their fish. You can tell by the smiles that they were happy with their catch, and with Capt. Mike. He knew where the fish lived. Thanks Mr. Wolsey, we hope you will call us again. Enjoy the fish.

May 1st & 2nd

Graham Rogers and Larry Hulsey brought a group of Georgia and Alabama boys together to fish with Papa Joe and Capt John. They were greated by strong winds, and big redfish. Lafitte and the fish both got a workout with these guys, because they fish just as hard as they play. Here are a couple of photos, including the giant catfish caught from Papa Joe's back porch. Thanks folks, it was great fishing with you again.

April 29th

George Moran and Dane Picone returned this year again to fish with Papa Joe. As you can see, the wind didn't stop the reds or the trout from eating. Everyone had a great time and Jan's cooked up a fine meal with the sauteed reds. Thanks guys. Hope we can do it again next year.

November 28

It was one-stop-shopping on Black Friday for the Favaloro's as they returned for their annual family fishing trip with Papa Joe. We got an early start knowing there was a 70% chance of rain (never happened) and reached  diving birds before sunrise. They caught 84 speckled trout within a 200 yd area before the fish gave out around 11 am. We left to find only a couple small redfish, then headed for home around 12:30 to clean a lot of trout. Here is a photo of Guy, David, Gerald, and Zack, with their large box of trout. Thanks guys, come again when you can. 

November 21

The best fishing day is in most cases the luck of the draw. We've all heard the "you should have been here yesterday" stories. Today, however, we stood on the dock prior to a trip that seemed doomed by high winds, muddy water and the coldest day of the year so far. On the way out we stopped at a marina to buy shrimp, andthey said we were the only ones out. With that we wondered just how many fish could be caught, and would this trip be a guide's worst nightmare. After a cold boat ride and stopping to test a few spots, our question was answered: all we wanted. Bradley Giles and his buddies from Idaho were putting fish in the boat faster then I could take them off and re-bait their hooks. It went on like that for hours until we ran out of bait. Here are a few photos of the guys with their biggest reds of the day. They kept plenty to eat at Jan's Cajun Restaurant and sent the rest back to fight another day. Thanks guys, we beat the weather and the fish this time, you just never know before you go.

October 29

Daniel, Per, Daniel, and Burke, caught these reds while fishing with Papa Joe today. The wind and dirty water did not make it easy. Plastics didn't work, so we had to stick with shrimp, but these guys were tough and came up winners. Thanks guys, enjoy the fish fry, and I hope to fish with you again in the future.

October 22nd & 23rd

Gene, Fred, Eddie, James, Shep, and Benny had 21 reds, 100 trout, and seven bass while fishing with Papa Joe and Capt. Mike on the first day of their trip. Unfortunately we had to cancel the second day because of the weather. So, they headed back to Shreveport via Cabalas in Gonzales. Here are the photos. October 20th

Mike Presley brought his group in from all over to laissez les bon temps roulette. Son-in-law Luke Iversen (Washington DC), friends Harry Harrington (Atlanta) and Jerry Burke (Daphne) enjoyed Papa Joe's hospitality and fishing as you can see from these photos. A limit of redfish and a seven bass bonus. Laughter and jokes were constantly flying around the boat. Thanks Mike, looking forward to you bringing the guys back soon. Enjoy the fish. October 18th & 19th

Greg, Brooks, Walter, Brandon, Jeff, Dustin, Lamar, and Dennis had two days of fabulous fishing with Papa Joe and Capt. Mike. These photos prove that fishing for a bachelor party is the way to go. These folks stayed at Papa Joe's waterfront accommodations and ate their fish at Jan's Cajun restaurant. They couldn't believe how good fish could taste. The weather was great and it was a fantastic time for all. Thanks guys, hope to fish with you again.

October 11th & 12th

Wayne, Lyndon, and Bradley Mooney, with Kenneth Pruitt from Georgia just spent 2 days fishing with Papa Joe. These guys had a great time fishing redfish and eating at Jan's Cajun Restaurant here in Lafitte, Louisiana. While the other guys were here before, this was Bradley's first trip, and he managed to catch the first fish on the first day, and it was his first Louisiana redfish. They spent both nights at Papa Joe's waterfront lodge, which made it easy to get an early start each morning. Here are a few photos of their trip. Thanks guys, hope to see you again next year.

October 4th & 5th

The Yona Drywall guys, Dickie and Larry, returned to fish with Papa Joe and had 14 of Cleveland's best fisherman with them. What a trip! We had 4 boats for 2 days and the fish never stopped hitting the ice chest. The weather was terrific both days, here are a couple of photos with a few of the guys showing off a few of their fish. Enjoy the fish fry guys, and we hope to see you again in the spring. 

August 29th

Greg Powell and his nephew fished with Capt Mike today and are pictured here with a couple of the fish they caught. Aside from a little shower, the weather was good and they spent most of the day in some big schools of redfish. Greg has fished with us pretty steady now for a few years, but this was his nephew's first trip and first redfish. You know he loves his uncle for this trip. Thanks Greg, we look forward to next time.

August 27th & 28th

What a trip!!! Wow did these guys catch some fish. John Houser's group, Frank, Robert, and Wayne, fished with Papa Joe on a 2 day package and really caught a mess of fish. Here are the photos with a lot of smiles. The weather, food, and laughs were all great and we topped the trip off with a big meal at Jan's Cajun Restaurant in Lafitte...also fantastic. Thanks guys, we can't wait to see you all again, it really was fun.

August 22nd

Chris and Papa Joe caught these Bass early today. A purple worm and some calm winds did the trick. Bass fishing has really turned on with all the fresh water and grass. Should be a great fall fishery if we don't get a big storm.

August 21st

Here is a great photo of the Steve Shupp and Les Henley Parties with just a few of the reds they caught. The weather was just perfect and the action of schooling reds was fast and furious. Capt. E.J. and Papa Joe fished 2 different areas with the same results. Now is the time to bust them good. Thanks guys, we look forward to fishing with you again.

July 27th

Bonny and Dwayne Witter from Houston, TX fished with Papa Joe today. They got a late start due to weather, but by 9 AM it cleared off and was fine. Here are their photos with some of the fish they caught. I know Dwayne loves blackened redfish, so enjoy the fish guys. It was our pleasure having you.

Paula, Sidney, and Mike had a great time fishing with Papa Joe today. Paula and Mike normally fish fresh water so they were surprised at the fight in these reds. They kept a couple on the half shell to grill and the rest prepared for Papa Joe's recipe that can be found on this web site. Here is the photo. For some reason, we fisherman always need proof. July 20th

Courtney, Mike, and Gene are pictured here showing off some of the redfish they caught with Papa Joe today. It was a beautiful day, but extremely hot. Everyone including Papa Joe had a good time. Mike is a partner in Saskatoon Waterfoul Outfitters so Papa Joe will see him again in September when he hunts Geese and ducks in Saskatoon, Canada. July 17th

Papa Joe's granddaughters are bass-catching machines, and here are the photos to prove it. When taking kids fishing, the trip has to be strictly for them, and it must be fun. Well, we did just that today. They reeled in bass after bass and never got tired or asked for help. At least until it was time to take them off the hook. We kept just enough for supper and threw a lot of fish back. It was a great visit for everyone, but Grandma and Papa Joe will need a rest when they head back to Charleston, SC.

July 16th

My son Mike and I hit the reds one more time today. Here is a photo of two out of his three daughters showing off "those slimy things" as they were called. The bite was on again today and should remain that way barring wind and storms. We will be taking the girls bass fishing tomorrow and will post the results here.

July 14th

Here is a photo of Clark and Mackenzie holding a couple of the fish they caught today with Capt. Mike. The fish started off a little slow, but boy they ended up on fire. Clark was here on R & R from Iraq to see Mackenzie, who attends LSU. Good luck to both of you, and we look forward to seeing you again when Clark's tour in Iraq is done. Thanks for serving.

July 14th

Papa Joe fished with his son Mike, who was in town from Charleston, SC. Here are the photos with the results of their trip. The weather was great and the fish turned on late, but that's fishing. They kept a limit and released the rest.

July 12th

Here is a photo of Wade Jackson with his first redfish. He fished with Papa Joe on Saturday, July 12th and caught plenty of reds. They sight fished all day and saw many schools. As usual not all the fish bit, and not all their casts were right on, but the ones they caught were nice and big. Thanks Wade, we hope you will do it again when you can. 

July 9th & 10th

80 trout the first day and 30 reds the second day made the Goubert party wish they had a third day. These guys are fisherman, in fact they were going to return to Shreveport and fish a bass tournament. Here is a good photo of Kate, Amelia, and Tess showing off some of today's catch. They fished with Capt. Mike and you can tell by the smiles that they had a terrific time catching those big redfish. Ron and Veda are pictured here with a few of the fish they caught with Papa Joe today. The weather was great, but the bite was a bit off, so they did not do as well as Papa Joe hoped they would. This was Veda's first fishing trip, so she didn't know what to expect. However, it wasn't long before she caught the first trout. Thanks folks, enjoy the fish and have a safe trip back to Atlanta. 

June 17th

Troy Toussaint and his group caught these fish with Capt. Mike and Papa Joe today. The fishing and weather was just perfect for the redfish. The guys were early and after getting a couple of fishing licenses, we were on our way. Thanks guys, enjoy the fish and we hope to see you again next year.

Jim Joesel brought Leo, Jose, and Brenda to fish with Papa Joe this weekend. Saturday was great: 40 Specs, and a few reds. But Sunday the weather man blew the forecast and we got rained out. June 12th

Rick Raymond from Raymond's Jewelry Creations, had some folks in town for his daughters wedding. Well, why not go fishing ? We did, and had a fantastic time. After catching some trout, we switched to Redfish and Rick caught that very large flounder you see in this photo. We hope to see you guys again soon.

Julie Marsh and her parents, Steven and Linda fished with Papa Joe today. This is their 2nd trip with us, and it was truly a pleasure. Here is a picture of tonights dinner. I think there will be plenty of leftovers. Thanks guys, we hope to see you on your next visit.

June 10th

Bill and Linda Wild fished with Papa Joe today. The day began with Papa Joe picking them up at their time share here in New Orleans at 5 AM, and within 45 minutes they were speeding down the Barataria Waterway to a place called Little Lake. There they caught Redfish and Black Drum. Today's trip was mostly catch and release but here are a couple of photos with Bill holding a couple of fish they kept to eat. Thanks folks We hope you enjoyed the fish.  

June 7th

Greg, Debra, and Micah Rupp caught these fish today with Papa Joe in spite of the wind. Greg and family stayed at Papa Joe's two nights and enjoyed eating some of their fish at Jan's Cajun Restaurant. Thanks folks, and have a safe trip home.

Chris Washington and his group caught these large reds with Papa Joe today down in Little Lake. Chris's son stole the show with the first 2 fish, and put everyone on their toes. The guys spent the night at Papa Joe's camp and after some coffee and biscuits got a very early start. It was a real fun trip for everyone, including Papa Joe. Thanks guy, enjoy the fish. 

May 31st

The Levitt party spent the last 3 days with Pat and Papa Joe. Thursday was a wash-out. The rain just would not quit, so they turned lemons into lemonade by sightseeing in New Orleans. Friday morning it rained again, but we managed to get on the water for 11:30 AM and took out our frustration on the redfish. Friday morning was beautiful and we slammed the reds again. Here are a few pics that show the quality of their catch. Raquel caught that big red by herself, quite an accomplishment. Fred and Curtis did just as well, and even John, a self proclaimed non- fisher, caught a large red and more. Marc, Sam, and Raquel show off one of Sam's big fish, and the group picture shows it all. May10th

Bea Rodriguez and Renee Cook spent today on the water with Papa Joe. It was a fun trip that startaed out with Renee catching the first keeper trout by dipping her line in the water right next to the boat. Well that was a sign of things to come, because the rest of the trip was a barrel of laughs. Thanks girls, we hope you enjoyed the wedding and hope to see you again. My fault there was no pictures, sorry.

May 5th & 6th

Norm Williams, his 2 sons Craig and Brad and friend Terry had a blast catching trout and redfish the last 2 days with Papa Joe. Norm has been fishing with Papa Joe for about 10 years now. These guys were a lot of fun and also took advantage of the terrific New Orleans fishing package deal that Papa Joe's has to offer. Here are a few photos.  Terry caught that huge red over 20 lbs while fishing trout the first morning. I think it was his first redfish ever. What a way to start. Thank you Norm, and thanks guys it was a great trip. You left Terry's rain suit, we can save it for next time or send it, just let me know.

May 2nd & 3rd

Graham, Terry, Brandon, Barry, Wesley, Brian, David, and Scott from Cleveland Ga. spent the last 2 days fishing with Papa Joe, and Capt John. They say Papa Joe's all inclusive New Orleans fishing package is the best way to go, and these guys really had a good time. Even though the wind just would not give us a break, they still caught fish. Proof is always in the pictures, so here they are with fish and smiling faces. Thanks guys, see you on your next trip to New Orleans in the fall.

May 1st

Pat Cox and Debra Favre caught these fish and more while fishing with Papa Joe today. We got a late start, and the wind was pretty strong, but they made the best of it and came out on top. Thanks girls, we're looking forward to your next trip.

April 30th

Papa Joe spent today on the water with Dennis Hayes, John Shea and Parker Rogers catching speckled trout, redfish and black drum. Here are Dennis and John holding up a couple of the larger ones. The guys were in for the Jazz Fest as well as fishing. Thanks guys, it was a great day.

James Hennigan and his lovely wife fished with Papa Joe today. As you can see from this photo, they had a wonderful day. Plenty of fish, good weather, and a fun time. It just doesn't get any better than that. Thanks folks, I hope we can do it again.

The Eddie Solomon group from Georgia returned to fish with Papa Joe for 2 days. Even though the fish were on the slow side, the guys had an excellent time. April 7th

Papa Joe fished today with Johnny Eggards and his 11 year old son Zeb. Can you see from these photos who caught the largest Redfish? This must be what they mean by a photo finish, but it looks like Zeb to me. Their day began with a 5:45 AM pick-up at their hotel, then some great fishing in some very skinny water with spinner baits, and back to the hotel for 3 PM. Thanks guys, hope to see you again soon.

March 28th

William Cappeller, Tom Barba, Dave Simmons, and Art Silveira, had a wonderful day on the water fishing with Papa Joe Today. A late start with a 10:00AM pickup at their hotel didn't seem to make a big difference, but of course an early morning breakfast is preferred by most fish. Here are a couple of the guys showing off a few of the fish  they caught. After Papa Joe cleaned their catch they returned to New Orleans for another night on the town. Thanks guys it was fun.

February 25th

Eric Britzke brought his crew back to fish a couple of days with Papa Joe. It was their first time here since the storm. As you can see from the photo we did well on day 1, but had to cancel day 2 because of weather. December 2nd

Fifty trout and ten reds kept Gerry Burke and his group very busy all morning. The weather was perfect, light winds, sunny skies -- you would never know it was December. The faces in this photo say all the rest. Enjoy the fish, guys.

November 23rd

The Favaloro's fished with Papa Joe for their annual "day after thanksgiving" trip. Guy Sr, Jr, Jeffery, and David from Houston made the trip this year. As you can see from this photo, Jeffery took the picture for all of them. The weather was cold and windy with muddy water, but we still managed to catch fish. Thanks folks, see you next time around.

November 20th & 21st

Papa Joe gets a big kick from watching other people catch fish, especially when his grandchildren are the other people catching. His youngest son came in a few days early for Thanksgiving, so he was able to spend couple of days fishing with Tom, Thomas, and Jack. They caught Trout and Reds both days but the real highlight was when Jack, his youngest grandson, caught a 15 lb. catfish off the dock. The fish pulled so hard he could hardly turn the handle on the real, and of course yelled for someone to help him the entire time. Grandma was on the camera immediately, so here are a few photos.

November 20th, 21st, and 23rd

Greg Powell loves to fish so much he fished with us 3 days this week. Two different captains split the trips, Capt Mike and Capt Bobby took good care of Greg. The 1st day he fished with two terrific ladies, and the next two days with George Johnson, another avid fisherman. Here are a few photos of their trip. November 19th

Papa Joe spent the day fishing with Kevin Reinke, his son Kameron, and friend Chris. As you can see from the group photo the cold air and strong north wind didn't stop them from catching fish. One of the photos is Kameron with a laaarge cat fish he caught from Papa Joe's dock while he was cleaning fish. There was a lot of meat on that bad boy. Thanks Kevin, see you guys next time around.

November 5th

As you can see from these photos, Rusty and Jerry, caught some pretty nice reds while fishing with Papa Joe today. The weather was perfect with clear skies and calm winds. They had a great time. This was the first time Jerry's been fishing in 30 years. I'll bet it won't be that long before he goes again. Thanks guys, fry the trout and enjoy those reds on the grill.

October 24th & 25th

The Gobert and Turner group returned again to fish with Papa Joe and Capt. E.J. These guys are always a lot of fun to fish with and they always catch a lot of fish. Here are a couple of photos from day one and day two. Look at those fish. On day one we limited out on Reds (30 of them) by 9:30 AM and went to find the trout. Once we found them we knew exactly were to go on day two. They caught 93 trout, six reds and a flounder the second day, with many of the trout being two to three pounds. Thanks guys, we are looking forward to your next trip.

October 19th & 20th

Larry and Dickie with Yohna Dry wall were back for more fish for the second time this year. Seven boats for two days just pounded the redfish. Here are some photos of the fish and the smiling faces that caught them. Weather was perfect all weekend and "the fish had no problem eating our bait," said Phil Stancel at dinner Saturday night. Larry commented that, "they are all happy campers tonight." Thanks guys, see you next April.

October 17th

Two good friends of ours, Chris and Nick, fished with Papa Joe today and caught their limit of speckled trout. Here's the picture to prove it. Every thing came together for the perfect day, and the fish were hungry, that helped also.

October 14th & 15th

Dean Austad fished with Papa Joe the past two days. He was here before in February of 2005. We had a fantastic time with reds the first day and a limit of specks the second day. You just can't beat that kind of fishing. Here is his photo with the trout from day two. Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture the first day. Sorry Dean. We will take several pictures when you are here next time.

October 12th

Crystal and her husband, Jeremy, from Texas, fished with Capt. Bobby today and had a good trip, as you can see from this photo. They caught trout as well as redfish.The weather was great--a perfect day for fishing. Thanks folks, we hope to see you again when you get back to New Orleans.

October 11th & 12th

Tony, Mickey, and Bud came all the way from Ga. to fish those Louisiana redfish and speckled trout. They have been here many times before and are not strangers to catching fish. October 11th

Harold Canfield fished with Papa Joe today for a tournament at work. We fished Reds, Specks, and Black Drum. He took a red and a speck to weigh in, but no luck with the Black Drum. Here are a couple photos of Harold loading the fish into his truck. The speck is under the reds.

October 9th

The Gabriela Lener booked a trip for 20 all the way from France. Just goes to show you that the internet is great for the charter business. Mr. James provided the round trip transportation from the Omni Royal Hotel to Papa Joe's where 5 expert captains waited to take them fishing. Everyone had a great time, caught fish, and the weather was beautiful. Here are the only pictures I could get since it was a catch and release trip.

September 28th & 29th

What a great two days...Post Properties returned to fish with Papa Joe's for a second year. The weather, fishing, and guides were excellent. Pictured here are Glen with his big red, the guys in Papa Joe's boat, the guys in Capt Mike's Boat, and a group picture of the 1st day. These folks stayed in downtown New Orleans and took advantage of our chartered bus to get back and forth each day. A boat lunch was provided by Papa Joe's, and everyone caught fish and had a great time. September 23rd and 24th

Paul and Mark Howard took a few days off to fish for some redfish and bass and as this photo shows, they were successful at both. Day one, Papa Joe took them to the ponds and caught reds on spinner baits. Day two, Capt. E.J. took them bass fishing and as I understand, it was a slaughter. September 21st and 22nd

Calvin and Willis Davenport, Wesley Taylor, and Kevin Hill fished on a 2-day package with Papa Joe today. These guys were a barrel of laughs and caught some very nice redfish. You just can't beat fishing the skinny water marsh with spinner baits and gold spoons, and if you get back to the camp hungry, my wife Pat always has something cooking. September 18th and 19th

The Williams and the Hunsakers returned to New Orleans to fish two days on Papa Joe's fantastic fishing package. Plenty fish, food, terrific weather, and just plain fun. September 8th and 9th

Here are a few photos of a two day trip with Kelly, Steve, and Alex, from Austin TX and Papa Joe's son, Joe. They took advantage of Papa Joe's accommodations and spent the weekend. Of course, a slow bite here is great anywhere else, as you can see from the size of the fish and the smiles on their faces. We need a cool front to really turn the fish on. Papa Joe and his good friend Chris Russo fished today and caught their limit of reds and a flounder. While Papa Joe was cleaning fish, Chris caught a 15 lb. Catfish off the dock. Here are a few photos.

I fished today with Bubba Perrilloux from Boat City USA and his three sons. These boy fished hard and here is a photo of their results. As you can by the rabbit ears, boys will be boys no mater where they are. It was fun Bubba, we should do it again soon.

We had a terrific time today with Judy Darby, a writer for Sea Pro Magazine. We caught plenty of reds in some very skinny water, took a lot of photos, and discussed shallow water fishing for redfish. Vacation Report; July 15th

Guess what Papa Joe did on Vacation in Florida. You got it, he went fishing with his son mike and John Meskauskas, one of the best guides in Stewart Fla. Here are the photos with our target fish, "snook." These guys are great fun to catch, but very hard to get out of the rocks, or off the pilings once hooked. Thanks for a wonderful time, John. July 11th & 12th

The Gobert Party returned to fish with Papa Joe and Capt E.J. Good move guys, we busted the redfish again. These guys are a lot of fun to fish with and they are very good fisherman. Best of all, they make the guide look good because they catch a lot of fish both on and off the boat. I think it was Fred that caught a 13.5 lb blue cat off my back porch. Check this photo. Mario and Stan caught their limit of redfish before 9:00 AM while fishing with Papa Joe this morning. Here is their photo...after all, what's a fishing trip without proof? The weather was fine except for the wind, which may never stop blowing again. We had a few reds cooked up at Jan's Cajun Restaurant for lunch, boy were they good. Eddie Faucheaux brought his gang fishing today with Papa Joe. They had 17 reds on a day that most other fishing groups had half as much. These guys are seasoned anglers, as you can see from this photo. Thanks guys.

June 11th

This trip lends meaning to the small world saying. One of my good friends, Gerry Burke, brought another friend of mine, Mike Creech, and Mike's son as part of the group. It had been 15 years since Mike and I were together. What a nice surprise for all of us. Even though the wind was high, we managed to catch some trout before giving up to catch a few reds. June 8th & 9th

As you can see from these photos, the Eddie Solomon group from Georgia had no shortage of fish. They spent three nights and two days fishing with Papa Joe on one of the best fishing package in the industry. The first day was strictly reds because of the wind, but the 2nd day the wind laid down and the trout were on. Thank you very much guys. I hope we can do it again in the fall.

June 7th

George Moran and Daine Picone, two good friends, caught these reds and many more while fishing with Papa Joe today. The strong wind kept us away from the trout, otherwise the weather and fishing was fine. Catching reds on spinner baits is a lot of fun, especially in less than 18" of water. Looking forward to next time guys.

Vanessa Werling and her husband treated their friends from Mississippi to a fishing trip with Papa Joe. There were plenty of fish caught by everyone, and here are a couple of photos that show just a few of them. they also got an early start by taking advantage of our waterfront accommodations. Nelson Anderson and friends caught these reds and plenty more while fishing with Papa Joe today. They made use of the great waterfront accommodations the night before and got the early start they needed to limit out. The reds were biting and fighting hard. They really enjoyed that. Here are a couple of photos of Calvin, Joe, George, and Tom, from Atlanta, Georgia. They spent two days at Papa Joe's fishing, eating, and just plain relaxing. May 17th

Terry, Paul, and Matt, (Jeff not pictured) from the Florida Sportsman came to New Orleans to fish and film with Papa Joe this week. Even though the weather just would not come around we managed to capture some great redfish footage. Spinner baits in tidal ponds, soft plastics in the larger bays, It was a blast. Here they are letting me photograph them, and even this Coyote posed for us on the last day. He looks worn out laying on a nutria hut. It was a good time guys. Thanks, and I hope we get to do it again some day.

May 11th

Bill and Lynn McDaniel and their three daughters fished with Papa Joe today. The bad news is it was windy. But the good news is, we caught fish anyway. Along with a nice mess of trout, each of them caught a redfish. They took some of the trout to Jan's for lunch, and I gave Lynn a recipe for the trout once they get back to Alabama. May 10th

May 7th, 8th, & 9th

Here's the photos. Proof that Grant, Joe, Dave, and Bucky were fishing redfish here in New Orleans. It's not work when you take this group fishing. They were great and they fish hard in-between barbs at each other. It sure was easy going to sleep at night after a day's fishing and with a full belly. The food was terrific. I think Pat out-cooked herself, especially the sugar-free, fat-free cheesecake she made. We fished 3 straight days and rested on the 4th. Thanks guys, have a good stay downtown and a safe trip home.

May 6th

As you can see from these pictures, Tim Touchet and his three sons had a good day on the water with Papa Joe today. After a good night's sleep at Papa Joe's, hot coffee, and biscuits, we got a very early start and everyone caught their share of reds. We had a few trout mixed in, but those reds were hot for the spinner baits. Thanks guys, I hope the recipe worked for you, and I hope to see you again this fall.

May 1st

The folks from Gallagher Bassett Services, Inc. brought a few clients fishing with Papa Joe, Capt. E.J., and Capt. Mike, during a meeting here in New Orleans. The guys had a fantastic time fishing, then eating their fish at Jan's in Lafitte. Here are a few photos of some folks showing off their fish. April 25th

Case, Karla, and Carmen, came all the way from Ghana, Africa and caught these fish and more with Papa Joe today. It was very windy, but the fish were very big. So much so that some were too big to keep, but boy were they fun to catch. Everyone got their share and left smiling on their way to Jan's Cajun Restaurant to eat some of their catch. April 23rd

Julie Marsh and Family had a fantastic day on the water with Papa Joe today. In these photos you can see the red fish were hungry for those spinner baits. Even mom, who came just to watch, caught her first redfish. It certainly was very exciting for everyone, including Papa Joe. April 20th & 21st

What a great 2 days we spent with the guys from Cleveland, Ga. Larry, Dickie, and the folks they bring are a joy to fish with. Here are a few pictures of some of the guys with a few of their fish. we put together 8 boats for 33 people. And the food at Voleo's, Jan's, and Lafitte Seafood Mason was absolutely fantastic. The weather was beautiful both days so almost everyone left with some sun and a smile on their face. Thanks guys, we hope to see you again in the fall.

March 17th

What a beautiful day to be on the water, with plenty of sun, light winds most of the morning, gators swimming and sunning. But for most of the morning the fish were tough to find. We did manage to catch trout as the morning progressed, and as you can see from the smiles in this photo the Triacoff's had a good time. Once the fish were cleaned, it was off to Jan's for a sautéed fish lunch. It just doesn't get much better than that. Thanks folks, Papa Joe really enjoyed fishing with you, come see us again.

March 16th

As you can see from this photo the Helfers family had a good day fishing with Papa Joe today. They caught plenty of redfish, 5 Bass, and a few speckled trout. February 27th

Great weather, muddy water, and Don Hutchison were all partners in today's fishing trip. It is always a pleasure fishing with Don, even on a tough day. But we managed some trout and reds (pictured here). Pretty nice, Don. Enjoy the fish, and we'll see you next time around.

February 23rd

What a day! My good friend E.J. and I caught 25 of these bass before 8 AM, and then another 10 or so before the sun and wind came up and shut them down. Then picked up a few speckled trout on the way home. All the fish were released including the specks. It's been a while since I posted a trip, but we are back on track and ready to go.

February 18th

Ragun P. Moody and his buddy Max Hetzer caught these redfish with Papa Joe today. The weather was cold and windy, but we managed to find a spot where we were comfortable and had fish. Most of the fish were caught on shrimp but some were on plastic also. Either way these guys had a good time and want to do it again. Enjoy the fish and we'll see you next time around.

November 24th

The Favaloro gang fished with Papa Joe today. Guy, David, Gerald, Jeffery, and Zack all caught Reds and Trout. The weather was absolutely beautiful, the wind light, and the water very low; typical winter conditions yet warm enough for just a t-shirt later in the day. November 20th

Kevin, Kameron, and Q, are pictured here with the limit of redfish they caught today. It was a late bite, but when they started the action was hot and heavy. It's always a good time when the kids are able to catch fish for themselves and Kameron and Q sure were able to do that today. It was a rough ride back home because of the strong wind, but the 24' SeaPro had no trouble cutting through the waves. Thanks Kevin, we're looking forward to doing it again

November 18th and 19th

Jim Joesel and Jim Jr. fished with Papa Joe this weekend, and are pictured here with their fish. They made use of Papa Joe's great waterfront accommodations and we were able to get that early start in the mornings. You can tell by the clothes we have on that it was cold, and the wind blew harder than expected, but there was no stopping us, and we caught fish anyway. Thanks guys, see you next time.

November 5th & 6th

Here are a couple of photos of the Rick Raymond party. These guys went to high school together and have had some terrific reunions fishing, etc. With grilled pork chops the 1st night and baked redfish the 2nd, there was plenty of eating and fun to go with the fishing. They went home with over 100 trout and other assorted fish i.e.; Reds, Flounder, Bass, and a few large freshwater cats caught from Papa Joe's back porch. October 29th

Dawn and Martin spent a fantastic day on the water fishing with Papa Joe today. The main target was redfish, and we are happy to report that Dawn caught her 1st red among others. They love to fish wherever they visit and are good fisherman. That's their story and here are their photos. I enjoyed spending the day with you guys and hope to see you again.

October 28th

Three generations of the Barrett family, all named Charles, fished Papa Joe today. These guys had a terrific time. Not only did they fish for trout and reds, but they spent 2 afternoons fishing from Papa Joe's back porch. They caught 3 catfish over 20 pounds each among others. October 20th & 21st

As you can see from these pictures, the Gobert and Turner group had 2 great days of fishing. Capt. Bobby and Papa Joe put these guys right on them both days. They had limits of reds both days and a total of 45 trout on the 2nd day. This is their 2nd trip here with Papa Joe and we are looking forward to having them back this June or July. What a fun weekend. Pat and Papa Joe hosted a 2-day package with Derrick, Doug, and Brandon Griffin, Joe Songer, Bill Davis, and Dexter New. These guys know how to have fun, laugh, eat, and last but not least fish. Pictured here with some of their fish, their smiles tell the rest of the story. October 10th

What a beautiful day Rusty and Sal had on the water with Papa Joe. We fished the slick water of Lake Salvador and the trout were everywhere. Rusty and I have fished a couple of times a year for the past 10 years, but this is the first time I've met Sal. He's 79 with the energy of a 40-year-old guy and a pleasure to fish with. Richard Mckinley from Columbus, Georgia, treated his son Shane to a fishing trip with Papa Joe this weekend for his college graduation. They made use of Papa Joe's accommodations and took advantage of the excellent Cajun food here in Lafitte. They had a terrific time even though a cool front came through and slowed down the bite. September 22nd & 23rd

Pictured here are the guys from Post Properties showing off the huge amount of fish they caught with Papa Joe and the best guides in Louisiana. These guys caught over 500 fish during the 2-day trip. We kept fish the 1st day and practiced catch and release for Day 2. Papa Joe supplied lunch and transportation from the Embassy Suites in New Orleans and they loved it. September 16th & 17th

Carey Capdeville, his father Merrill, friend Tom and his son Shawn fished a 2-day package with Papa Joe this weekend. These guys know how to have a good time, and that's exactly what they did. The fish bite was slow the first day, but we made up for it on the 2nd day and hit the trout and reds with all we had. The food was great (thanks to Ms. Pat); the Laughter, tears, and cheers for LSU were loud; and the fun we had fishing was out of site. September 10th & 11th

Larry & Schatzie made the trip from Texas to fish with Papa Joe as well as make a gator hunt. They took advantage of the great accommodations we have here to stay in the middle of the action. They helped harvest 14 gators on their hunt and caught some redfish fishing with Papa Joe. Here are a couple of photos with some of the fish. August 14th

Fished with some good guys today. Kevin and his son Kameron hooked into some larrrrrge redfish on our 2nd stop of the day. Some made it to to icechest and others didn't. Kameron had a great time fighting these mighty reds, what a terrific back to school present. "Thanks, Dad!" Here is a photo of Kameron with two of the reds he landed. July 29th

Today I fished with "THE GIRLS" from Stewart. Penny, Peggy, Eleanor, Cynthia, and another Peggy. They did great. Early in the morning, the trout were eating shrimp and jumping out of the water and into the boat. Even though some were not keepers, others were -- and they had a fantastic time with them. On to the redfish, where everyone managed to reel one in. It was exciting for me to watch the girls that had never fished before catch one. Everyone had a terrific time and I'm looking forward to fishing with them again. Come on back girls.

July 28th

We had a great trip today fishing with three generations of Dumestre's: Brock Sr., Brock Jr., and Justin. The fishing was tough, because the trout just wouldn't co-operate, but we managed to pull it together with some real nice redfish. Here are some photos of the guys with their fish. July 16th

Vint, his family, and friends fished with Papa Joe and Capt. Bobby for his son's birthday. They had a fantastic time and caught over 100 trout as well as a couple of reds. The only thing that's hotter than the weather right now is the fishing. Kevin and Bob found that out when they fished with Papa Joe today. Check out those hats and, of course, the fish in this photo. My brother-in-law, Walter Horton, is pictured here with a couple of the reds he caught while visiting us here in New Orleans. These are his first reds ever, and he said he couldn't catch fish. But he didn't realize at the time that he was fishing with Papa Joe. We fished in the heat of the day while the girls were ... you guessed it... SHOPPING.

June 27th

Steve Wright fished with Papa Joe today. Other than a stiff wind that's been blowing for a few days now, the weather was good. Neither of us fell out of the boat so the trip was very successful. Steve had a great time, and took both Speckled trout and Redfish back to Carmel Indiana. Here he is with the big red of the day.

June 24th

Monica, Shelly, Kevin, and Grady Came from Lafayette, LA to fish with Papa Joe. They knew the importance of getting an early start during the summer months, so they stayed at Papa Joe's Lodge the night before. We had a good day on the water as you can see from this photo. Raleigh Trosper and Randy Unphers from Hot Springs, AR made a second trip down to Lafitte to fish with Papa Joe. They stayed at the lodge and fished 2 days. It was a lot of fun for everyone. Phillip and Oscar fished reds with Papa Joe today, and they had a ball. As with any day's fishing, we landed some and some got away. June 5th

Mike and his crew from Ft. Polk, Louisiana spent the night at Papa Joe's and left the dock at 5:30 AM to catch reds, so Papa Joe took them the same place he caught yesterday. Oh, no! What a surprise, not even a bite. Papa Joe put Plan B into action and ran 20 miles to the trout. Here they are with their catch. Wow, that was close. Thanks guys, not only for the booking but also for serving our country. You're welcome back any time.

June 3rd

Today we took a trip for Capt. Parker. These folks were from Texas and had a terrific time catching redfish. Normally the fish bite best in the morning, but because business comes before pleasure they had to book an afternoon trip. Well, today it didn't matter. Here they are with just a few of the reds they caught in only 3 hours. Thanks, folks and you too, Parker. We had a good time.

June 2nd

Clayton, Dwight, and Ian from Can USA fished with Papa Joe today, and caught all these trout. They got an early start by staying at Papa Joe's lodge the night before, and enjoyed a fantastic dinner at Jan's Cajun Restaurant. The weather was perfect and everyone had a great time.

May 29th

My good friend Edwin and his family joined me on the water today. The weather was perfect and we caught close to 75 fish. Even though most were undersized, the kids had a blast. Kyle learned how to cast his own rod and reel and caught the first fish and plenty more. The goal with kids on board is to keep the action going, and we certainly were able to do that. May 27th

Paul, Gary, and Paul's son caught some beautiful redfish today with Papa Joe. Paul's son was the highlight of the trip. Using his own bait casting reel, he caught several himself. This boy is going to be a fantastic fisherman. Look out you pros, he is on his way. Here is a photo of the guys with a few of the large fish they caught. Thanks guys, it was fun. May 6th

Capt. Mike had a 2 boat trip today and asked me to help him out. We headed to Barataria Bay and caught 130 trout and 5 reds. The largest red was 13.9 lbs. and it took Jerry (pictured in the blue shirt) about 10 minutes to land. I think he completely circled the boat at least twice during the fight. Here is a photo of the guys with their fish.

May 5th

Fished today with Doug, Julie, and Julie's parents from Indiana. They had a fantastic time catching 19 reds, 2 black drum, and a flounder that Linda caught first thing in the morning. The weather was beautiful, which made it very pleasant to be on the water, but too windy to get into the big bay for trout. Here are a few pictures of the folks with some of their fish.

May 3rd

George Moran and Dane Picone with Source Production Co. returned to fish with me again, and we mauled the redfish as you can see from this photo. We got an early start and ran straight to Barataria bay to catch trout. However, the wind had already picked up enough speed to almost eliminate the trout fishing. We managed a few, but by 9AM it was time to go find the reds. It didn't take long for George long to hook up with the 1st red and the rest of our limit came easy. Thanks guys, enjoy the fish. I'm already looking forward to our next trip.

April 29th

Kristine Benefield booked this fishing trip for the guys pictured here with all the redfish. The weather was not the best with a cool front approaching the winds were southeast at 25 Knots. We had to work for every fish we caught, but fishing is always fun and that's the reason for getting out. We got an early start because they spent the night at Papa Joe's Lodge. For us it was just another day in paradise. Thanks guys, enjoy the fish. We hope to see you again soon.

April 28th

Kurt and the folks from AEA Technology QSA/Sentinel fished with Papa Joe and Capt Jody today. Here's some happy people as they show off some of the redfish they caught. Born to fish, Little Willie -- pictured with his dad -- reeled in several reds on his very first fishing trip. He hung in there the entire day casting away. Thanks folks, we hope to fish with you the next time you get to New Orleans.

April 15th

The Grahan's fished with me today. What an enjoyable couple they are to fish with. We had a great time, and caught a limit of Reds along with a few trout. The trout bite was very slow this morning. April 11th

I fished today with Harold, pictured here. Harold and I have become friends over the past 8 or 9 years of fishing together, and he's truly a great guy and a good fisherman. We tried the bull reds and drum with cracked crab, but they won that battle. So we headed to the small bays and ponds where we caught trout and reds. We didn't get the big fish we were looking for, but we did catch and that's always a good time. Thanks, Harold, see you next time around.

April 7th & 8th

Larry Hulsey, Dickie Nix, and the guys from Georgia returned to fish with Papa Joe and his guides. This was their 7th year fishing with us, and while the fishing is up and down depending on weather, the trips seem to get better and more enjoyable each time. They went home with a 90 qt. ice chest full of fish fillets. Some of the guys are talking of coming back with family members for additional trips. The food was fantastic, they ate at 3 different Lafitte restaurants. Jan's, of course, is my favorite. Here are some photos of a few of the guys showing off their fish. April 2nd

Don Hutchenson fished with Papa Joe this morning. They tried the trout first thing but they wouldn't co-operate, so we headed for the ponds and some redfish. They were there waiting for them and they did quite well with a limit in just a short time. Here are a couple of photos with the guys and their limit. April 1st

Got off to a late start today, but that didn't matter the reds were there. I fished with a couple good friends named Bobby and Harold and we caught and released a lot of redfish. They averaged around 6 lbs each. Just right for those new OKUMA rods and reels. Here are a few photos with a couple of the fish we caught.

March 25th

Boyd Favaloro, and Richard Granger fished with me today. It was cold first thing in the morning but after the 2nd cast and Boyd caught the first of many trout it warmed up fast. We had as many through back as we had keepers but all that did was kept the action going. Here are a couple of photos of the guys and there fish. They were going to have a fry tonight, boy I can taste those golden brown speckled trout right now. See you guys next time around.

March 16th

Papa Joe and his son Tom caught these bass and more while fishing in Lake Hatchmaha, Lake Kissimme, and Lake Toho. They trolled with shiners under a cork. All the fish were released back to the water.

March 6th

The Ramseys are pictured here with their first redfish. The wind and a slight drizzle off and on couldn't stop these guys with 20 trout and 4 reds. They fished hard and enjoyed the day fishing with Papa Joe. They stayed at the lodge the night before and enjoyed some great seafood at Boutte's Restaurant, Then started their trip home to Indiana later in the day. Enjoy the fish and be sure to try that recipe. Thanks guys, I hope to fish with you again on your next trip.

February 28th

Chris Russo and Nick Gagliano fished with Papa Joe again today, and they couldn't wait to show off the redfish to go along with all the trout they caught. There were a lot of boats out on Mardi Grass day, and no wonder. Who want to go to a perade when you can catch fish like these? Good eating guys.

February 8th

Wayne and Ernie from Texas fished with Bobby and Papa Joe today. The Redfish action was terrific in the late morning, but it sure was a chilly boat ride early. Here they are showing off a few of the reds they caught today. Wayne's 32 inch was about 15 lbs. We returned a lot of the larger fish to the water so they could fight another day.

February 5th

Papa Joe had the pleasure of fishing with CT Williams today as we filmed a TV show for Louisiana Wildlife. The show is seen in many parts of the USA. Here is a photo of Papa Joe and CT with some of the fish they caught. Looks like they hit a few big ones.

January 31st

Nick Gagliano and Mario Calonje caught these trout while fishing with Papa Joe today. The weather was cold first thing, but warmed up quick. We had a great time and cleaned 37 beautiful trout. We ate some of the fresh trout at Jan's Cajun Resturant with onion rings, salad, and redbeans with rice. The guys brought the rest of the fish home with them. It certainly was a fun day.

December 30th

What a difference a day makes. The wind died, the water cleared up, and today Don Hutchinson caught his limit (25) of trout in the exact spot we couldn't catch trout yesterday. The funny thing is that today we couldn't find the reds where we caught them yesterday. He did manage to catch a couple of drum, though. We had a good time, and Don (pictured here) has a lot of fish to cook. Thanks Don, I hope to see you again soon.

December 29th

Rick Raymond and his son Dennis are pictured here with some of the fish they caught today with Papa Joe. The weather began to warm up and it felt good, but the wind was still blowing. Although we kept a limit of reds, we only had a few trout and an assortment of drum and sheephead. We left the reds on the half shell for them to barbeque tonight. I wish I knew what time dinner was. Thanks guys, we had a great time fishing with you, see you next time around.

December 17th

The Toups, Diez, and Amedee boys pictured here finally collected their fathers day presents when they fished with Papa Joe and Capt E.J. today. This gift from their wives included Meals, Accommodations, and fishing. The guys had a great time at the lodge as well as fishing. The day started and ended with a little rain and the winds blew hard in between, but they managed to catch some nice reds on artificial and market bait, and the rain couldn't dampen a good time. Thanks guys (and girls) it was a great idea for fathers day, and I hope you will return.

November 25th

The Favaloro's were back for their annual day after Thanksgiving trip, and just slammed the fish. We started off a little slow because the wind changed and was blowing 18 mph right into the place where I had been fishing for the last two trips. We finally landed on the fish in a protected canal and as you can see from these pictures, the bite was on. Everyone caught a lot of fish, had a terrific time, and a trip the kids will never forget. Thanks Guy, enjoy the fish, and we'll see you next time.

November 23rd

The Galy's, Bellow's, and Bush's fished with Papa Joe today. It was beautiful weather and as you can see from these photos the fish were hungry and biting. The guys were in from Florida and Georgia for Thanksgiving and this trip was just what they needed to add to the fun. Thanks folks, enjoy the fish, and come back to see us the next time you're in town.

November 22nd

We're back in operation, and as you can see by these photos the fish never left. In fact, the fish have been biting better since the storm. I think Katrina shook them up a bit. Tom and Thomas had a great time even though the early morning chill held us up for a little while. All those fish were caught in three hours.
