"We were away from the dock at 5:45 am. I could see the
towering clouds and flashes of lightning some 30
miles away and hoped they were heading east."

THE FORECAST

JANUARY  2000 Fishing Forecast

Temperatures can vary from the mid-thirties to the mid-seventies. Expect a cool boat ride in the early mornings and a nice warming trend the rest of the day. Cold fronts move through the New Orleans area about every 3 to 4 days this time of year changing the fishing patterns twice a week. Speckled trout, and red fish head for the warn water in the deep canals. Consequently the boat ride is shorter (5 to 15 minutes) and It is not unusual to find the specs, or reds stacked up in the back of a dead end canal. Average catches are between 15 and 50 fish depending on the wind, type of day, and fishing skills. On some days it may be necessary to arrange a later departure from the dock to take advantage of the warming rays of the sun. This is also a great month for bass, and often we catch them mixed in with the trout and reds.
